So it’s been a while my friends. I guess you could say I have been slightly busy. HOWEVER, I would like to think it’s because I am sticking to my awesome 2014 bucket list, which includes “read 3 books a month.” (Or 2 1/2.. same thing right?) But really, I have been reading some INCREDIBLE books lately that I must share.
Before I begin, I will admit – I have restarted the Harry Potter Series. To my credit, it is ONLY my second time, so no need to judge. These books are just SO. MAGICALLY. GOOD. If you haven’t read this series, disregard everything I say below and go start Harry Potter now!! I promise, this is a bandwagon you want to jump on and never leave.
But on to new books. I have one for everyone out there – funny (check!), WOAH i didn’t see that coming (check!) & of course, Jesus (check, check!). So pick out your favorite, get a copy for yourself & start readin’!
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and other concerns) by Mindy Kaling
I love this girl. Not only because she was Kelly Kapoor on my beloved The Office, but because she is even greater as Mindy Kaling. The book takes your through her awkward middle school years, the beginning of her “star” career, and her current life. There is a one page chapter explaining how men and women put on shoes differently, hilarious & totally true – it blew my mind! (Find it and read it for your self if you don’t believe me!) She even has an entire chapter dedicated to The Office and tid-bits on her love/hate relationship with Dwight Schrute. If you want a laugh-til-you-cry, I LOVE MINDY book, this is your gal.
Inferno by Dan Brown
Okay so I think I am about a year late on reading this one, but hey – finally got to it! This book is written by the same author who wrote The Da Vinci Code – so CLEARLY ya know it’s going to be good! It is about a man who wakes up in the hospital, not knowing how he got there & realizing people are trying to kill him. The clues of what happen unravel as they race to figure out Daunte’s Inferno. The book takes you through detailed pictures of Florence and Venice, which is fun if you have visited these places. If you are looking for a “WHAT?!! Where did that come from?!” book, here it is my friends.
Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard – (devo edition by Darien Cooper)
I am currently reading this book and it is teaching me so much. It is about a deer, Much Afraid, who is following the The Shepherd to the Higher Places. In traveling to the High Places, Much Afraid must encounter loneliness, pride, sorrow, resentment and more – yet the Shepherd is always a call away. A book with a main character as a deer. Right….? No but really, it is about striving for Jesus despite what may come against us. The entire book uses nature to teach us lessons about “acceptance with joy,” humility and strength. If you love Jesus & love nature, this will be one to see His beautiful creation in a new way.
“The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.” Habakkuk 3:19
